Incorporating Dry Brushing into Your Skincare Rituals
Dry brushing is a skincare technique that involves using a dry brush on your skin to exfoliate and stimulate circulation. The process involves gently brushing your skin in long, sweeping motions towards your heart.
Dry brushing is extensively used in Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine, but it has also been practiced by Ancient Romans, Greek, and Egyptians.
Dry Brushing benefits
One of the main benefits of dry brushing is exfoliation. It helps to remove dead skin cells, revealing smoother and brighter skin. It also helps to unclog pores and prevent breakouts.
Another benefit of dry brushing is improved circulation. The brushing motion stimulates blood flow to the skin and promotes lymphatic drainage, which helps to remove toxins from your body and reduce the appearance of cellulite.
Dry brushing can also be a great way to relax and unwind. The gentle brushing motion can help to relieve stress and tension in the body, promoting a sense of calm and relaxation. It can be a great addition to your self-care rituals.
Choosing the Right Dry Brush
Make sure to choose a brush with natural bristles such as horse or boar hairs. Natural bristles are firm but not too harsh on your skin. Avoid brushes with synthetic bristles, as they can be too abrasive.
Look for a brush with a handle that is comfortable to hold and easy to grip, and consider the size and shape of the brush. A brush with a larger surface area will allow you to cover more skin in less time. However, make sure the brush is still easy to maneuver and use on different parts of your body.
Lastly, consider the quality of the brush. Look for a brush that is well-made and durable. You want a brush that will last for a long time and maintain its effectiveness.
The Good Brush
Our dry brush is made out of soft boar hair bristles that are very gentle on the skin. It features a contoured wood handle with a cord to make it easy to grip, and comes in a beautiful canva bag for easy storage and transport.
How to Properly Dry Brush Your Skin
1. Start at your feet and work your way up towards your heart. Use long, sweeping motions and apply gentle pressure.
2. Brush each area of your body for about 5-10 minutes. Pay extra attention to areas with dry or rough skin, such as elbows and knees. You may want to spend more time on cellulite-prone areas.
3. Brush in the direction of your lymphatic system, which is towards your heart. This will help to stimulate lymphatic drainage and remove toxins from your body.
4. Avoid brushing too hard, as this can cause irritation or damage to your skin. Use a light touch and let the bristles do the work.
5. Dry brushing your whole body may take 5-10 minutes. After dry brushing, follow up with a warm bath or shower to wash off any dead skin cells. Complete your ritual with a good moisturizer such as Divine or Sacred Body serums are perfect for this purpose. Find them in our 3) Pamper Collection.
If you are new to this practice, you can start dry brushing 2-3 times per week. You may find that your skin may need some time to adjust and get used to the feeling of the bristles.
Otherwise, it's a great wellness ritual to enjoy anytime before showering or bathing.
